Little Shop Of Howlers

One holiday down, one to go!

November 29, 2014
I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving! This happens to be my favorite holiday of them all! No pressure, just food. Yum! And I know my pets love the little tidbits they get here and there throughout the day. The kitchen floor is never dirty for long. Of course there are some holiday food items your pets should never get, or get in very small doses so be careful sharing too much with them.

Holiday appointments go fast so be sure to get your pet booked soon so they are so fresh and so clean for guests and family that are bound to stop in. We do add extra days to fit in the increased appointments, but even those don't last long. Enjoy your family and friend time and please stay safe and warm this month!

What's with the policies?

November 29, 2014
Sometimes we have customers ask why we have certain policies and can't they be bent just this one time for their pet. Unfortunately we have these policies for the comfort and safety of all the pets and staff of Little Shop. Perhaps you have not read our policies, or do not understand the sense behind some of them so we would like to explain them a little more in depth here. Our policies can be found on our Pawlicies page.

1) UTD on rabies vaccine. This is pretty self explanatory, the law dema...

Shake, shake shake!

April 27, 2014
Shake shake shake...shake your....puppy? Does your dog shake when you are dropping them off at the salon? Why do you think they do that? When I first started grooming I used to feel bad because I wanted every dog to come in bounding and happy to be at the shop. Then I realized that just like people dog's have different personalities, different emotions and different ways of handling stress. I also put myself in my dog's paws, so to speak, and imagined what going to the grooming shop is like f...

Bad to the bone.

March 23, 2014
Whenever I tell anyone what I do for a living the first question I am asked is "Do you get bit a lot?". Of course I get bit, but there are so many different levels of dog bites that it's hard to answer that question with a simple yes or no. I think people group all bites into one category of aggressive behavior where the dog is looking to rip us to shreds.  Even my own children who are surrounded by dogs didn't understand the different ways dogs communicate through biting.  At first hearing "...

The Golden Rule

March 23, 2014
"Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."

I think most of us have heard it a time or two and it makes perfect sense.  I was raised with this ingrained in my head.  Most of us are capable of self control and can live up to this in daily interaction with people, but too many times I don't see this same basic respect paid to the pets we come into contact with.  Here is the article that sparked this blog post, it is a fantastic article with a lot of good points that I feel very strongly...

Wow, it's been too long!

March 23, 2014
So I had big plans of blogging about our Westminster party.  About Westminster in general.  Then about the first grooming competition of the year in Atlanta and so on, and somehow the time got away from me.  So here are all the blogs I wanted to write wrapped up into one.

Our Bark Central party was so much fun!  We had about 25 people attend and we were so rowdy they gave us a private room with a projection tv screen and our own dedicated waitstaff.  Earlier in the day I had gotten the news ...

What's in a scheduled appointment time?

January 11, 2014
Why do I have to get my dog groomed more often than I get myself groomed?

Two great questions! First lets deal with what's in a scheduled appointment time.  Why do we set up appointment times instead of have everyone show up first thing in the morning and then groom first come first serve type basis?

I have worked for salons that have everyone come in between 7-9am and then begin bathing everyone, then drying, around lunch comes the time for everyone's haircut and finishing and beginning in the...
